For 1970, the last time the Shelby name was attached to a US-built Mustang for decades, both a GT350 (351 cubic-inch) and GT 500 (428 Cobra Jet) were offered. They can be distinguished from the 1969 models built off of the same body shell by the addition of two black stripes on the hood and the black front chin spoiler.

The new-for-1970 intermediate-sized Torino body projected a look that was both svelte and muscular. The long nose and fastback roofline gave the car an aerodynamic appearance that did not translate to the banked oval track.
